Polar Bear Safari
November 10-17, 2009
from $5,395pp plus airfare

View the Polar Bears of Churchill, Manitoba

Trip Description -

Travel Masters is proud to offer a bit of variety for your travel pleasure!  This year, we are going to see the Polar Bears of Churchill, Manitoba.  Every year, in late October and early November, the Polar Bears gather in Churchill as they wait for the Hudson Bay to freeze.  This is the only time of year when you can expect concentrations of Polar Bears.  There are families and singles, playing, hunting, resting and cavorting as they anticipate the freezing of Hudson Bay so they can go a hunting for seals!

Itinerary -

The trip actually begins in Winnipeg.  We will spend the first two nights in Winnipeg, allowing our bags to catch up to us and to purchase any last minute items that we forgot to bring with us!  We are staying at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg.  This historic hotel is gorgeous and fabulous!

On November 11, we will have an orientation dinner at the Fort Garry Hotel in Winnipeg.  Parkas will also be distributed today for use throughout the rest of the trip!  The parkas are fabulous!!  Boots will also be distributed.  But, we recommend wearing Uggs for optimal warmth and comfort.

On November 12, we will take a charter flight from Winnipeg to Churchill.  Take a look at a map. There are no roads!  So, we will fly 600 miles north to Churchill.  We will spend 4 nights in Churchill.  We will venture out on to the tundra in specially designed Polar Rovers for two full days of viewing.  And, we also get a chance to go out one evening!!  If we are lucky, we get to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights).  Once we find the bears, we just sit and wait for them to come to us!  They may come right up to the Tundra Buggy!  So, you will need a telephoto zoom lens and a lens for close up encounters!!  In addition to the Polar Bears, we may also see a variety of other wildlife including the Arctic Fox, the Arctic Hare and Ptarmigans.

In addition to Polar Bear encounters, we will also take a dog sled ride (weather permitting).  There is also time put aside for some special presentations and a tour of Churchill.  The presentations will give you insight into the history and culture of the area.

On November 16, we will fly back to Winnipeg for our last night at the Fort Garry Hotel.  This evening is at our leisure.  We might enjoy a movie in town or just a quiet dinner at the hotel.

On November 17, we are transferred back to the airport for our flight back home.

Mike and Vickie are leading this trip.  They have been to see the Polar Bears on this same tour.  So, talk to them and see what it's all about!
