ADVENTURE IN NAMIBIA

2023 Namibia Group Trip

Unique. Adventurous. Stunning

I know that when you think of a safari, you think Tanzania or Kenya or maybe even South Africa. That’s what everyone thinks! But, I want you to think outside the box. Think unique. Think stunning. Think animals, big cats, rhinos, elephants, giraffes, zebras … all in the world’s oldest desert, the Namib Desert. And, think about going somewhere that very few people have been. Be a pioneer. Be adventurous.

The Namib Desert is beautifully formed sand dunes that meet with a deserted stretch of coast and inland as far as you can see. The sand has devoured ships along the Skeleton Coast – nearly a mile from the coast! And, the Namib desert is home to a wide variety of wildlife despite the complete lack of water. How have these animals adapted to such a harsh environment? In a word – Fog! Yes, fog! Fog is the main source of water and somehow the animals have adapted to these conditions.

The sand dunes in Namibia are a rich red/orange color and some of the dunes exceed 1200’! That’s higher than a 100-story building! They get their color from a layer of iron oxide that coats the sand. It’s not photoshopped – it really is that red!

Namibia is also home to the Himba people. They are on the northern side of the country and have adapted in such a unique way to the dry conditions of Namibia. The culture of the Himba people has been shaped by the geography, the climate and history of northern Namibia. We will be lucky enough to meet the Himba people and learn about their most unique lifestyle.

So, Namibia offers a unique geography, uniquely desert-adapted wildlife and a native people that have also learned to adapt to their surroundings. This really is a must-see destination for anyone that wants to get off the beaten path and see what most people can never imagine.

Mike and Vickie Coker have coordinated with Natural Habitat Adventures to create a completely custom itinerary that will allow you to see the best that Namibia has to offer. We will visit the Himba people in the north, the Etosha National Park famous for its wildlife, the Skeleton Coast and the magnificent and towering sand dunes in the southern part of Namibia. We will travel by private charter flights between each destination on our itinerary. Each of our exclusive camps offer wonderfully unique accommodations with superb views and a central location for exploring the area. The safari begins and ends in Windhoek. All meals at the camps are included and breakfast is included at the city hotels (just one night at the start and end of the safari). All ground transportation, all park fees, all government taxes and some trip insurance are included in the trip package.
